Obituary of Agnes Roenbeck

Please share a memory of Agnes to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Agnes (nee Stellitano) Roenbeck, 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at her home in South Plainfield, NJ.

Born to the late Joseph and Lucille Stellitano, Agnes was raised in Linden, and later settled in South Plainfield, where she has resided for over 60 years.

Following her high school graduation, Agnes went to work for Standard Oil, later Exxon, as a secretary. Once making the decision to start a family, she stayed home and proudly raised her children. Once her two sons were established in school, she went back to work at Stern’s, later Macy’s, in Middlesex Mall, and continued to work there for over 15 years.

Following the passing of her late husband, Ronald, Agnes became an avid Yankees fan, to say the least. Game days typically started with a phone call to her nephew, Ernie, to discuss the lineup for the day’s game. Then, without missing a game from 1996 to 2024 (4,536 games), Agnes would sit down to watch and kept detailed notes and statistics in a notebook, one for each season. If a party or function got in the way of a game, she would often find a way to watch during the event, and would later go home and rewatch the game, despite already knowing the outcome, to ensure it was entered into her notebook.

Outside of the Yankees, she also enjoyed knitting and was involved in the South Plainfield Senior Center Knitting Club, and watching game shows. She also made sure to take care of her friends, driving them to doctors’ appointments as needed all the way into her 90’s. Family meant the world to her, from watching her children grow up, to spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Agnes spent as much time as possible with them. She never missed a sporting event, and her cooking for family events is a memory everyone in the family cherishes. There are also many memories of wonderful times in Arrowhead Lakes, in the Poconos.

Predeceased by her husband, Ronald F. Roenbeck, Agnes is survived by her children, Ronald T.  Roenbeck and Joseph P. Roenbeck and his wife Karen; grandchildren, Christie Carter and her husband Sean, Joseph F. Roenbeck, and Samantha Roenbeck; and great grandchildren, Cameron and Micaela. She will also be missed by a host of extended relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 10 AM – 2 PM.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home beginning at 1:30 PM on Sunday.

Cremation services will be held privately, and Agnes will be buried with her husband at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia, NJ, at a later date.
