Obituary of Donald Rosander

Monroe Township, NJ – Donald Robert Rosander, 93, passed away peacefully on March 11,2025 surrounded by his family.   Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Donald Magnus and Gertrude (Simmons) Rosander, Don grew up in Brooklyn and later resided in Piscataway, Metuchen and Newton prior to settling in Monroe Township in 2023.

 

Don was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class after he faithfully served his country from 1951-1955.  He was proud to receive the Air Force Occupational Medal in Germany and the National Defense Service Medal.  He worked as plant engineer and purchasing agent for Consolidated Cork (later known as National Can Company), was plant engineer for General Cable and retired from New Jersey Institute of Technology where he was employed as a Laboratory Supervisor.

 

Don had a deep love for God and was a pillar in his church community.  He most recently served at Grace Alliance Church where he was a greeter. Earlier, he was active at New Durham Chapel where he served as an usher, Sunday School Teacher and leader in the Christian Service Brigade.  Don was also active at Timothy Christian School, where he served as a long-time board member and former President of the Parent Teacher Fellowship.

 

He was a member of American Legion, was a former committee person with the Township of Piscataway and was a self-published author of his book, Write One for Our Side.

 

Don loved antique automobiles and repairing cars, liked woodworking, enjoyed reading, writing letters to the editor and could always be found serving at his church and in the community. Don was active in the lives of his children and grandchildren, teaching them and engaging in activities with them as they grew up.

 

Predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Rosander and second wife, Lucille Nielsen Rosander and his sister Lois Tregillies, Don leaves behind his children: daughter, Ruth and her husband, Andrew; son, David and his wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Julia and Daniel Rosander and Jonathan and Danica Snyder; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Lucille, as well as his nephews, James and Robert Tregillies.

 

Visitation will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM and from 7 PM to 9 PM.

 

Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 10 AM, family and friends may gather at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 AM.

 

Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 1401 Woodland Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Alliance Church in Don’s name.
