Jovencio C. Cabanday, fondly known as Joven or Joe, passed away peacefully at home in Edison, NJ, on April 12, 2025, at the age of 85. His life was a shining example of love, generosity, wisdom, and hard work, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on January 21, 1940, in the Philippines, Jovencio pursued a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the Mapua Institute of Technology. His professional journey led him to become the owner-operator of Linden Air Compressor, where he combined technical expertise with entrepreneurial spirit. Jovencio was a man of integrity, known for his dedication to both his work and his community.
Family was the cornerstone of Jovencio’s life. He shared 56 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Fely. He was a devoted father to his daughter Jocelyn and a doting grandfather to Jeremy, Jenna, Julia, and Jiselle. Though he endured the loss of his son, Joven A. Cabanday, as well as his parents Moises and Manuela, and siblings Artemio, Merico, Reneng, and Orlando, Jovencio’s resilience and faith carried him forward. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving sisters, Evangeline (Resty), Ruby (Adelino), and Edna.
Jovencio was a man of many talents and simple joys. He had a deep passion for sports, particularly cheering for the New York Jets and Mets, and found patience and tranquility in fishing. His love for food extended beyond discovering hidden culinary gems to creating them himself. Jovencio was an exceptional cook whose kitchen creations brought loved ones together. Whether preparing a traditional Filipino dish or experimenting with a new recipe, his meals were infused with love and a generous spirit, often leaving guests asking for seconds—and the recipe.
Jovencio’s unwavering Catholic faith guided his actions and relationships, inspiring generosity and kindness. He was a role model who shared wisdom, encouragement, and optimism, uplifting everyone around him. His infectious smile and warm demeanor made him a beloved figure within his family and community.
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” – Pelé. Jovencio lived by these ideals, facing each day with determination, kindness, and love for those around him.
As we celebrate Jovencio’s remarkable life, we honor the love, hope, and strength he imparted to those he touched. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, reminding us all of the profound impact of a life rooted in faith, family, generosity, and the joy of sharing both his table and his heart.
