Obituary of Alberta Martino
Alberta “Bertie” Martino, a beloved mother and dear friend, passed away peacefully in Houston, TX on May 8, 2025 at age 74. She was born to Albert and Eleanor Giunta on March 28, 1951, in Plainfield, NJ. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Patsy J. Martino, and her brother-in-law Raymond Marsh, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Walker and her wife Tara Ezzell, her sister Donna Cannis and her husband Jay Cannis, her nephew Raymond Marsh, Jr, and her niece Elizabeth Marsh.
After her graduation from South Plainfield High School, she followed in the creative footsteps of family and studied cosmetology. She graduated from Garden State Beauty Academy in Middlesex, NJ and worked at family hair salons. Alberta later owned her own beauty shop, Perfect Touch Hairstylists, in South Plainfield. She also worked at Arbor Glen Assisted Living as a beautician and volunteered cutting hair at several local nursing homes. Devoted to her clients, Alberta would often fulfill requests to style their hair even after death, often going to the local funeral homes to care for them one final time.
Those who knew Alberta will remember her for her joyful, down to earth personality and her Italian American heritage pride. And like her father, she was the family prankster keeping everyone on their toes. She enjoyed giving back to her community by volunteering at FISH, Inc in Piscataway, NJ, and called BINGO at Care One Nursing Home in Edison, NJ. Alberta was an avid Elvis and oldies music fan. The NJ oldies radio station was always playing, either at home, in the car, or at her hair salon. When she wasn’t dancing to the oldies, she was walking Spring Lake Park or going down the shore.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart RC Church, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 10 AM.
Following mass, burial will take place at Holy Redeemer Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1734 Clinton Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the Martino family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in Alberta’s name.
