Obituary of Mary L. Dietzold

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary L. Dietzold (Square), 65, of Piscataway, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Born in Plainfield, Mary was raised in South Plainfield, where she spent most of her life before relocating to Piscataway 15 years ago. A devoted Catholic and hardworking woman, Mary built a long career as a waitress, working at several well-loved diners throughout the South Plainfield and Piscataway area. She was especially known for her time at Sherban’s in South Plainfield, the Fountainbleau in Piscataway, and the former White Star, also in South Plainfield.  Mary also took on the double-duty of Hair Stylist, where she cut hair at several locations throughout South Plainfield and even had a room at home for clients.

Mary’s high energy, warmth, and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Over the years, she formed countless friendships with customers who returned not just for a meal, but to be greeted by her welcoming smile and genuine care. Her love for people, cheerful spirit, and tireless dedication made her a beloved part of the community.

Mary loved going to Atlantic City to play the slots with her sister Carol, sitting on the beach with her sister-friends Donna, Kathy, and Alyson, Dunkin Donuts, playing her lottery tickets, and most importantly, spending time with her grandkids.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jeffrey Dietzold; her sisters, Carol Wilson and Jean Ksenzakovic; and her lifelong best friend, Donna Gaster.

Mary leaves behind her loving family: daughter Jessica Dietzold and her husband Yasin Guiles of Piscataway, and son Doug Dietzold and his wife Jaime Gaughan of Annandale; her sister Nancy DiDonato of Pennsylvania; brothers Harry Square and his wife Ann of Wall Township, and John Square and his wife Micheline of South Carolina. She was a proud grandmother to Gianna and Deonte Guiles, and Emerson and Jack Dietzold.  Mary had countless nieces and nephews she loved fondly. She also cared so deeply about the many friends of Doug and Jessica who came into their home over the years.

All funeral services have been privately entrusted to the care of McCriskin-Gustafson Family of Funeral Homes, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.

Mary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.
