Obituary of Ann Crandall

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ann Crandall, 97, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by family on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ.

Born and raised in Scranton, PA to the late William and Mary Mulherin, Ann lived in various areas before settling in South Plainfield in 1955, where she has been a longtime resident since.

Ann briefly worked at Burt’s in Middlesex Mall in South Plainfield before working as a sales clerk at Ski Jewelers in Green Brook. A true people person, she loved her time at the jewelers, and remained there for over 10 years while making lifelong friends.

An avid traveler, Ann took every opportunity to see the world. It was experiences like being in Germany the day after the fall of Berlin Wall that fueled her passion to travel.  She was not afraid to travel alone and there were only a few countries that she didn’t visit. Her favorite was visiting her relatives in Ireland.

Whether she was traveling across the globe or right in her home town, she left her mark. That friendly, outgoing, kind personality transcended borders and language barriers, allowing Ann to make friends wherever she went. If she had an interaction with someone, they remembered her, and it showed when she would go out, it seemed like everyone knew who she was.

Predeceased by her husband Burton Crandall, and brother Connie Mulherin, Ann will be deeply missed by her children, Nancy Banos and her husband George and Mike Crandall. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris and his wife Jamie, Tim and his wife Kim, Lauren, Jeff and his wife Amy, and Jason; great grandchildren, CJ, Alyssa, Madison, Harper, Dylan, Olivia, and Chandler; daughter-in-law, Lori Crandall, as well as host of extended relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at the McCriskin – Gustafson home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 4 PM to 8 PM.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart RC Church, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home prior to mass, beginning at 9 AM.

Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 1401 Woodland Avenue, Scotch Plains, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the Crandall family has requested that donations be made to Special Olympics New Jersey
