Katherine A. Gangemi, 91, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Plainfield, NJ on May 16, 1934, Katherine grew up in South Plainfield, NJ and had been a longtime resident of Dunellen, NJ for 62 years.

She began her career at Westinghouse in Edison, NJ, where she worked as an executive secretary.  After moving to Dunellen, she went on to serve the town with dedication and heart for 27 years as both Tax Collector and Treasurer.

A devoted mother and proud member of the community, she was one of the founding members of the Twins Mothers Club of the Greater Plainfield Area, where she formed lifelong friendships that brought her great joy and support over the years.

Her commitment to Dunellen extended well beyond her professional role.  She was actively involved in local civic life, coaching recreation sports, participating in town events, and always showing up for her community in countless ways.  Her passion for service, community, and family left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew her.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Gangemi Jr., her beloved mother and father Francis and Maryann Chicarelli, and her dear brothers Norman and Arthur.

Surviving are her loving daughters and son-in-laws, Pamela Shangle and her husband Robert of Dunellen, NJ; Patricia O’Keeffe and her husband Thomas of Morganville, NJ; and Sharon Smith and her husband Mark of Easton, PA.  She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Bobby, Daniel, Alyssa, Kristen (her husband Hayden), Erin, and David.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 4-8pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ.

The funeral services and interment are being held privately.
