Louis Soda, 78, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, July 28, 2025 at Fox Trail assisted living in Green Brook, NJ.

Born in Melfi, Italy, Louis came to the United States at the age of six.  He was raised in the Ironbound section of Newark, NJ before settling to the West Caldwell, NJ where he spent most of his life. 

He was a veteran of the United States Army and later earned a Bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Louis was employed as an accountant for Monroe in Morris Plains and later for Safer Textile prior to his retirement. 

Louis was a long time and devoted communicant of St. Aloysius’s Roman Catholic Church in Caldwell.  He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed horse racing.  His love of the Horse racing led him to a part time job as a security guard for the Meadowland Racing and Entertainment Company in East Rutherford which allowed him to be close to the excitement of the race.

Predeceased by his wife Lorraine Vigilante and four siblings, Geraldine, Dora Grace, Adelia and Vincent, he is survived by his devoted daughter, Lisa Cassidy and her husband Thomas, MD., and his grandsons; Matthew, Thomas and Aiden and is also survived by several extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 9-10:15 AM in the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080.  A Funeral Mass will follow in St. Helena’s Church, 950 Grove Ave., Edison, NJ 08820 at 11:00 AM.

Entombment will follow mass in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in North Arlington, NJ.
