Obituary of Sofia Torres
On August 2 at 10:15 p.m., Sofia passed away peacefully in her sleep, transitioning to the other side and reuniting with Guillermo, her beloved husband of 60 years.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Sofia-whose name means "wisdom"—lived a life that reflected that very virtue. She was a source of quiet strength and serenity, offering her love, patience, and goodness to everyone around her. In her later years, she became affectionately known as Mama Sofia, a name used by both family and friends to reflect their deep respect and affection for her.
Sofia is survived by her children: Fabio (Vivian), Omar (Adriana), Guillermo (Carolina), Heliana and Elizabeth. Her grandchildren: Giovani, Veronica (Alex), Omar Jr. (Nohelia), Anthony (Angélica), Nathalie, Chris (Alex), Matthew (Diana), Brianna and Nathan and her great grandchildren: Alessio, Amelia, Oliver and two more on the way - along with countless friends and extended family.
Her light will never fade from those who loved her.
Visitation hours are Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway NJ 08854 from 4-8PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 8th at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Mount Virgin, 600 Harris Avenue, Middlesex, NJ 08846 followed by cremation at Rosehill Crematory, 355 E Linden Avenue, Linden NJ 07036.
To honor Sofia's life with grace and peace, the family kindly requests that attendees wear white—a color symbolizing the purity of her spirit and the peaceful farewell they wish to give her.
