Obituary of Steven R Hunter
Steven R. Hunter, 62, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – Somerset.
Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Steven spent most of his childhood in Piscataway. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps., where he was stationed at 29 Palms in California, and was discharged after four years. He resided in multiple towns before living in Philipsburg for several years, but ultimately returned to his home town in 2018, where he has lived since.
Once home from the military, Steven became involved in the Landscaping business, working for a number of companies, before going off on his own and starting a company himself. After several years of ownership, he went back to working for different landscapers, most recently Custom Care Services Inc.
When his sons were younger, Steven was active in the Boy Scout, even serving as a Leader for several years. He also enjoyed time spent outdoors with his sons away from the Scouts. The many camping and kayaking trips the family went on are memories they will forever carry with them. The 4th of July Picnics Steven would have at his home in Philipsburg will also be remembered, especially the beautiful annual firework display he would put on.
Predeceased by his parents, Albert T. Hunter, Jr. and Irene A. (Edly) Hunter, Steven is survived by his children, Steven T. Hunter, Alec Hunter, Matthew Hunter, and Mike Borhi, and siblings, Patricia Hunter, Peter Hunter and his wife Delia, and Donna Hunter. He will also be missed by a host of extended family and friends.
Cremation Services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the Hunter family has requested that donations be made to Hope 4 Paws Humane Society, in Steven’s name.
