Obituary of Frances A Courtney

South Plainfield – Frances A. “Fran” Courtney, 84, passed away Sunday morning, August 17, 2025 at home. Born in Plainfield, Fran was a lifelong resident of the area, living in North Plainfield before settling in South Plainfield Borough with her late husband, Gerald. The couple also shared a residence in Boynton Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed spending winter. After the loss of her husband, Fran relocated to Florida for several years before settling back to South Plainfield in 2020. Throughout her life, Fran was dedicated to her community and education. She served as President of the PTA and was instrumental in founding the “Get Acquainted” program at Kennedy Elementary School, providing new students the opportunity to meet their teachers and familiarize themselves with their new school environment before the start of the academic year. Fran enjoyed sitting by the pool, was an avid reader, and take pleasure in sharing lunches with friends. Predeceased by her husband, Gerald Courtney; surviving are her two children, Sherlyn Courtney and Jeff Courtney and wife Colleen. She will also be missed by her four grandchildren, Nicole, Amanda, Kyle and Jake.
