Obituary of Nicholas S. Colucci, Sr.
South Plainfield, NJ – Nicholas S. Colucci, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully at his home in South Plainfield on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Born on May 23, 1934, to the late Nicholas and Jennie (née Palmieri) Colucci, Nicholas spent his early years in North Bergen. In January 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served before receiving an honorable discharge in January 1957.
In 1962, Nicholas married his wife, June, and they remained near family in North Jersey until settling in South Plainfield in 1965 to raise their own family. Nicholas became a devoted member of the community and a longtime resident of the Borough, establishing deep roots while raising his children.
Nicholas worked for the Port Authority at Newark Airport, during which time he attended St. Peter’s College in Jersey City and earned an associate’s degree in 1979. His hard work and dedication led him to the role of Terminal Supervisor, a position he held until his retirement in 1989.
Outside of his career, Nicholas loved traveling. He enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, excursions with the South Plainfield Senior Center, and many memorable journeys with his late wife, June. Whether near or far, he cherished the experiences and memories they made together. After his wife’s passing, Nicholas never missed a daily visit to the cemetery before taking a drive to the mall to enjoy a coffee, people-watch, and work on his lotto scratch-offs.
Predeceased by his wife, June (née Galasso) Colucci; his brother, Robert Colucci; and his sister, Gloria Barbieri, Nicholas is survived by his children: Ellen Graf and her husband, Kevin; Nicholas Colucci, Jr. and his wife, Leslie; and Christopher Colucci and his wife, Shannon. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Nicholas III, Chelsey, Erica, Brianna, Hunter, Grace, and Sophia, along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ, on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM in the funeral home.
