Marilyn was my neighbor and childhood friend. Our paths diverged and we parted geographically but spoke at least once a year - usually on or around her birthday.
That made us witnesses to each other’s both significant and micro life events that occurred over more than half a century. There is something about a friend you’ve known for so long and they’ve known you, as if they could see right through to your essence. I always felt seen and heard by Marilyn. She remained an equally loyal friend and bonus daughter to my mother.
But her study of sign language and working with the deaf coupled with the dedication to serve that community with a pure and joyful heart was remarkable and inspiring. The devotion to this task led to her acceptance into the deaf community - something not easily won. With her share of challenges, Marilyn turned into one of the toughest ladies I have ever known.
Today on my trail walk, I met a clan of woodpeckers who erupted into a comedic performance that was rivaled only by Marilyn’s epic bursts of laughter.
Ciao Marilyn, arrivederci

I am a fellow SSP who knew Marilyn from working at various Deaf and DeafBlind events. She always greeted people with a warm smile and seemed to enjoy her work. I know she made a positive difference in people's lives. I am sending heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

Dearest Nicole these reflections are for you
Marilyn was the first SSP ever to go surfing with me or any Deafblind person in Surfing for Vision event. She taught me what I first came truly know about the ocean and how big and far it expanded to. She was my SSP for most of my years with EDGE as well. She was truly unique and dedicated for all of my assignments. I will miss her deeply. For a more than a year she was my SSP for my early years of competition in track& field in NJ at the behest of Amo. She continued to attend NJ competitions with me for the remainder of the 2019 season out of loyalty to her pledge to Amo even after his death in 2018.
Your mom was my diamond in the rough and she always saw others as who they were but also helped them blossom as who they could be with proper support.

I worked as an SSP with Marilyn for many years. She was a kind hearted person and a compassionate SSP and friend. The world will not be the same without her and she will be greatly missed. May we all still carry her with us in spirit and in our hearts.
