Obituary of Basilio A. Obispo, Jr.
South Plainfield – Basilio A. Obispo, Jr., 77, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born on November 16, 1947 in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to the late Basilio Sr. and Feliza Obispo, Basilio was lovingly known as Jun or Junior to family and friends. Jun immigrated to New Jersey in 1972 with his wife Estelle. Their first home in the US was in Newark, then onto Edison, and they later settled in South Plainfield for the past 28 years. He worked tirelessly for 41 years, providing the best opportunities for their three children, finishing his career to happily enjoy life as a retiree.
As a man of numbers and statistics, one of Jun’s favorite pastimes in his younger years was frequenting the blackjack tables in Atlantic City. He was a die-hard fan of the New York Knicks and New York Mets. Jun was meticulous and known for his resourcefulness, often completing various projects around the house with his “MacGuyver” skills. Due to his affinity for cars, and love of family vacations, he drove with finesse during long family road trips. A loving husband, proud father, and an even prouder grandfather (Lolo), Jun most cherished spending quality time with his children and grandchildren, as well as traveling the world with his wife. He was well-loved for his “Dad Jokes” and playful attitude, bringing laughter to the friends and family around him.
Jun was predeceased by his two older brothers, Alberto and Antonio. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Estelle Obispo and three children, Earl Obispo and wife Liz, Beverly Poscablo and husband Theodore, and Bonnie Obispo. Jun will also be missed by his three grandchildren, Dante (22), T.E.J. (5) and Roman (3), as well as his sister Lita Guerrero and husband Pedro.
