
Obituary of Peter William Gordon, Sr.
Peter William Gordon, 78, of Middlesex, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville, NJ.
Affectionately known as “Pete” to his family and friends, he was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran who honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Rising to the rank of Corporal (E-4), Pete was a decorated Marine, awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Rifle Expert Badge, and the Pistol Sharpshooter Badge.
Following his military service, Pete dedicated his life to protecting his community as a member of the Middlesex Police Department, where he faithfully served until his retirement with the rank of Sergeant. He was also an active member of the Middlesex American Legion.
Pete was a man of many passions. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, shooting, and photography. He was also an avid billiards player and a proud collector of sports cards, finding joy in both the challenge of the game and the stories behind each collectible.
He will be forever remembered as a devoted family man. Pete was the beloved husband of Barbara Gordon (née Lawrence). He was the loving father of Peter Gordon and his wife Adrien Toro, Dawn Gordon and her husband Jim Gourgoutis, Eric Gordon and his wife JodiAnn Gordon, and Kevin Gordon and his wife Kim Gordon. He was the cherished grandfather of Annika, Justin, Beck, Jeremy, Logan, Nicholas, Christopher, and Victoria, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Pete was the dear brother of the late Norman Gordon, and brother-in-law to Beverly Webb, Bruce Lawrence, and Richard Lawrence. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Ruth Gordon.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Pete’s family will accompany him to Somerset Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum and Crematory, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, privately.
Pete will be remembered for his service, his passions, and, above all, his unwavering love for his family.
