Obituary of Robert Seitzmeyer
Robert John “Polka Bob” Seitzmeyer of Piscataway, NJ, passed away peacefully at 8 am Tuesday, September 30, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Newark, he grew up in Irvington and was the son of the late George and Dorothy (Apgar) Seitzmeyer. A graduate of South Plainfield High School, Robert was married to his high school sweetheart, Teresa, for more than 53 years. Together, they built a loving family that was always at the center of his life. He was the proud father of two daughters, Becky Seitzmeyer of Dunellen, NJ, and Tracy Sesta and her husband Michael of South Plainfield, NJ. He was a devoted grandfather to Grace, Brian, and Samuel, and also cherished his “adopted” son, William Spitz.
Robert worked tirelessly for Verizon for 49 years as a transmission technician, serving through hurricanes, floods, and the aftermath of the World Trade Center collapse. His dedication and work ethic left an enduring mark on his family. In the early 1980s, he was Piscataway’s Bicycle Commissioner, instrumental in making storm drains bike-friendly. He was active at the Deutsche Club in Clark, a longtime member of the Paulsboro Stag Club, and volunteered many summers at the Our Lady of Fatima Feast Pizza Fritte booth.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, canoeing in his “Big Banana,” fishing, cycling, and exploring the Pine Barrens. He also loved videography, Polka bands, and folk music.
Robert will be remembered for his humor, smile, and love for his family.
