Noel A. Lugo Obituary

Noel A. Lugo, 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at his home in Plainfield, NJ.

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to the late Justino and Maria Lugo, Noel came to the United States, spending most of his younger years in Perth Amboy. In 1976, he settled in Plainfield, and has been a longtime resident since.

While attending Perth Amboy High School, Noel played as point guard for the school basketball team. During the 1968 season, “The Dream Team” made it to, and won, the State Championship. The memories of playing alongside classmates who would later become lifelong friends, like Wayne Pennyfeather, Brian Taylor, and Peter Mavrookus, were memories he often reminisced on and enjoyed sharing with friends and family over the years.

Following his high school graduation, Noel was drafted into the United States Army. During his time in the Military, he honorably served in the Military Police and was stationed overseas in Korea. In 1973, he was honorably discharged.

Upon coming home from the military, Noel started working with Aaron Circus, for Aaron’s father as a Glazier, working on custom glass manufacturing and installation. Eventually, Noel and Aaron took over the company and renamed it A and N Glass. Eventually Aaron moved out of state and Noel took over the local business, continuing to operate as Metuchen Glass Company. After a 43 year career, he retired in 2018. Over those 43 years, Noel had the pleasure of working alongside great colleagues who later became friends. Of those many, the Lugo family would like to specifically thank Jennifer and Tito to the loyalty, dedication and all they have done for Noel, not only in the office, but out of it as well, over the years.

Outside of work, Noel was an avid pool player, belonging to many leagues over the years. His basketball career also did not end after high school, it just changed. When his two sons were in elementary school, Noel stuck to the sidelines and let their teams as coach for many seasons.

Predeceased by his son, Justin Lugo, who passed away in 2003, and his sister, Maria, Noel is survived by his wife, Maureen (nee Sasso) Lugo; son, Shayne Lugo and granddaughter, Shay Noelle Lugo. He will also be missed by his sister, Ulga and her husband John, and brother, Justin along with many nieces and nephews, extended relatives and friends.

Cremation services were held privately.
