Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Janice Elaine van den Berg, 78, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at her home in Middlesex, NJ surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Phillipsburg, NJ, to the late Joseph H. Miller, Sr. And Egle Marie (nee Mantoni), Janice resided in Phillipsburg, Washington, NJ, Somerville, NJ and Piscataway, NJ, before settling in Middlesex in 1973.

Graduating from Somerset Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, Janice held several positions over the years, including starting and operating an Adult Medical Daycare, New Jersey Eastern Star Rehabilitation and Nursing, Somerset Valley Nursing Home, and most recently, Medicor Cardiology, before her retirement in 2012.

Janice was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex, where she was a past member of the Lazarus Ministry, attended Adult Formation every Wednesday in the Spring and Fall, and was a member of the church book club.

She also loved to cook and bake. Home cooked meals were a staple in the house, so her children knew nothing about store bought foods. Janice was also known for her Thanksgiving pies and cookies for every holiday. Not only a proficient cook, but Janice was also a talented seamstress, making Halloween costumes for the kids, as well as every day and special occasion outfits.

Travel also held a special place in her heart. Throughout the years she and her husband, Frederik, traveled the world including Holland, Aruba, several Caribbean Cruises, and recently a family trip to Bermuda and let’s not forget The Jersey Shore.

Predeceased by her parents and nephew, Daniel, Janice is survived by her husband of 56 years, Frederik C. van den Berg; children, Melissa-lyn van den Berg, Scott van den Berg and his wife Shannon, and Greg van den Berg and his wife Kelly; and grandchildren, Savannah, Cory, Erin, Lucille, Mia-lyn,,and Mattingly. She will also be missed by her siblings, Patricia Miller, Linda O’Connor and her husband Scott, Joe Miller and his wife Cindy; and nieces and nephews, Michael, Kate, Jaymie, Joseph, Matthew, as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ, on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 4 PM to 7 PM.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, 600 Harris Avenue, Middlesex, NJ, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home prior to mass, beginning at 10 AM.
