Obituary of Patricia Yost
Patricia A. Yost, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026, in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Patricia was born on April 30, 1932, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, to the late George and Anna Rohrer. She spent her early years in Shamokin, where she was raised and lived until 1962. She later resided in Metuchen, New Jersey from 1962 to 1978, South Plainfield, New Jersey from 1978 to 2021, and most recently in Bridgewater, New Jersey from 2021 until her passing.
In the early 1950s, Patricia worked as a telephone operator for Pennsylvania Bell. Beginning in 1955, she devoted herself to her family as a homemaker, a role she embraced with pride and dedication for the remainder of her life.
Patricia was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Metuchen for more than sixty years. She faithfully served the church “behind the scenes,” offering her time in the kitchen and lovingly caring for babies in the nursery. Known affectionately as a “baby whisperer,” she had a gentle presence and a natural gift for comforting infants.
Patricia enjoyed many creative and peaceful pursuits throughout her life. She loved sewing and embroidery, refinishing antique furniture, baking and cooking, reading, and walking—having never driven a car. In her later years, she found joy in rug hooking and gardening. She especially loved flowers and found beauty in all things, most of all in the people around her.
Patricia was predeceased by her beloved husband Herbert Yost (1997) as well as by her loving sister, Jean Long.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Susan Terrano and her husband John of Mahwah, New Jersey; her son, Karl Yost and his wife Lori of Hillsborough, New Jersey; four cherished grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her step grandchildren and her step great-grandchildren.
A gathering to celebrate Patricia’s life will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 2-4 pm. at The McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, New Jersey.
Patricia will be remembered for her ability to see beauty in everyday life and in everyone she met.
