Obituary of Pompeyo Roa Realuyo
Pompeyo Roa Realuyo, 92, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, in the early morning hours of Monday, January 26, 2026. He remained devoted to his faith, family, and philanthropy to the very end.
Born and raised in the Bicol Province of the Philippines, Dr. Realuyo began his legal studies at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. He later pursued advanced studies in Europe, earning a Doctorate in International Law from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, before continuing his education in the United States, where he obtained an LL.M. (Master of Laws) in Taxation from New York University. On June 30, 1962, he married his college sweetheart, Dr. Nora Bautista Realuyo, a cardiologist, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Together, they made their home in New York City.
Dr. Realuyo established an international law practice based in New York and traveled extensively to serve clients around the world. He took particular pride in his work representing Holocaust survivors and Russian forced laborers in legal proceedings against Germany for their mistreatment under the Nazi regime. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Realuyo founded and led the Hanna Kaupp Foundation, which has provided hundreds of academic scholarships to Filipino students attending Bicol University’s School of Nursing and supported their transition into nursing careers in the Philippines and abroad.
Dr. Realuyo is survived by his wife, Nora; his daughter, Celina Realuyo; his son, Alberto Realuyo; his daughter-in-law, Heidi Vanhamme Realuyo; and his grandsons, Alexander Realuyo, Second Lieutenant, U.S. Air Force, and Nicholas Realuyo, Cadet, U.S. Air Force Academy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:30 p.m., at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854.
Dr. Realuyo will be laid to rest on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway, NJ.
