South Plainfield - Agnes M. (Tkacs) Michalak, 97, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, Agnes resided in Avenel before settling to South Plainfield in 1952. A graduate of Beauty Vocational School in Woodbridge, she worked as a beautician in Keyport and Metuchen before her employment at the Forum Beauty Salon in Edison where she worked for many years. Agnes lived for her children. She was interested in crafts and gardening and was a wonderful cook and baker. She always enjoyed hosting family gatherings and special holiday celebrations. She was also a communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield. Predeceased by her husband, Anthony Michalak and sister, Margaret Nimetz, surviving are her son, Barry Michalak and wife Sherry of Neshanic Station; daughter, Carol Galinsky and husband Alan of South Plainfield; five grandchildren, Jessica and Brooke Michalak, Ashley Green, Kimberly and Matthew Galinsky and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 9AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed a funeral mass at 10AM in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Perth Amboy. Family and friends may attend visitation on Wednesday from 6-8PM in the funeral home. Donations may be made in Agnes's memory to the American Heart Association or the Dementia Society of America.
