South Plainfield - DeWitt P. Giles, 65, died on Friday morning January 1, 2016 at Overlook Hospital in Summit with his family at his side.
Born in Rahway, NJ to the late Peggy and DeWitt S. Giles, he was raised and had resided in Edison for most of his life before settling to South Plainfield ten years ago. DeWitt graduated from J. P. Stevens' High School and later graduated from Middlesex County Police Academy.
He was a well know Patrolman for the Edison Police Department, retiring in 2014 after 29 years of service. He was also the owner and operator of Giles Tree Experts and previously employed by Plainfield Welders and David Smith Steel. DeWitt was also a partner in Complete Scapes, LLC with his son.
DeWitt was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time doing both those activities with his son. He is a former member of the South Plainfield Elks and Italian American Club, former East Brunswick Volunteer Firemen and is a member of the Edison PBA, an honorary member of the Edison Rescue Squad #2 and the Woodmen Association.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Jennie Joyce ( Falcone), son, DeWitt and his wife Arlene of Flemington, daughter, Caryann of Montgomery and four grandchildren; Sabrina and Jake Besser and Audrey and Danica Giles. Also surviving are many brothers and sisters in law as well as extended family members and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to join together for visitation on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-9 in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 11.
Interment will follow in Hillside cemetery, Scotch Plains.
