Lewes , DE - William Askew, 96, died on Thursday August 18, 2016 at the Harbor Health Care and Rehabilitation in Lewes, Delaware. Born in Whitehaven, England in 1919, William arrived in South Plainfield at the age of eight. In the early 1970's he retired to Bricktown, NJ before recently relocating to Lewes, Delaware. A decorated Veteran of the U.S. Navy, William served for eight years prior to his honorable discharge. While defending our country during WWII. Bill was a recipient of 1 Bronze Star and 19 Battle Ribbons and also participated in one of the wars most crucial battles of the Pacific Theatre, the notorious Battle of Midway. After returning from the war, Bill worked for 15 years as a private Chauffeur for a wealthy Plainfield family. He retired from Samoset Laundry of Plainfield after many years. He is predeceased by his Parents Ester and James W. Askew and his sisters, Margaret Van Gordon and Doreen Phelan. Surviving are his wife Marguerite, his sons, William B. Askew and his wife Kathy of Rohobeth, DE, James Askew and his wife Kathy of Milton DE, His daughter Patricia Torriero and her husband Joseph of Alton, NH, six grandchildren, Jennifer Danek, Charles Askew, James M. Askew, Michele Lucie, Jill Blinebury, and Ricky Rieger and nine great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 11AM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ07080. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 5-8PM in the funeral home.
