South Plainfield - Miriam C. (Manninen) Mentzell, 91, died on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Roosevelt Care Center in Old Bridge. Born and raised in Rockport, Mass., she resided in Glouster, Mass., Dunellen, and Fanwood prior to settling in South Plainfield in 1957. For 27 years, Miriam worked at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield in the Labor and Delivery Unit as an Operating Room Technician. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and the cross stitch and for a few years during her stay at the Greenbriar Community Miriam ran the ceramic room. She is pre-deceased by her first husband Charles Benward; second husband Edgar Mentzell; sister, Helen and two brothers, Robert and George Manninen, surviving are three children; Miriam Skrzypczak and her husband Joseph of South Plainfield, Kathleen DeCarlo and Charles Benward and his wife Patricia of South Plainfield. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Harold and Dale Stamile, John DeCarlo, Adam, Ryan, and Charles Benward and Andrew and Mark Skrzypczak as well as nine great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 follow by interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7PM in the funeral home.
