Obituary of Walter Ostapovich

Walter Ostapovich, 91, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2017 at Madison Care Center in Matawan. Born and raised in South Plainfield to the late Charles and Olga Ostapovich, he was a lifelong boro resident. Walter started working for MAC Trucking when he was in trade school at Vo-Tech. He left his position to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II; where he was stationed in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1946 He went on to work as a Machinist for MAC Trucking in Plainfield, Ego Pump in South Plainfield, and Picut Manufacturing in Warren until his retirement in 1992. Walter enjoyed gardening and was known to dedicate the time to grow the best tomatoes. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and the quality time spent with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret in 1988, and his dear siblings, Olga, Claudia, Helen, Stella Spanger, Albert, and John. Surviving are his children, Andrew Ostapovich and Margaret Raymond, his cherished grandchildren, Kelly, Jeffrey, Justin, Melanie and Timmy, his great-granddaughter Jenna, and his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. Entombment and military honors will follow at Lake Nelson Memorial Park Mausoleum in Piscataway.
