My Nonno was larger than life. He was a man's man, yet gentle-hearted and kind. He stood 5"3 yet was a force to be reckoned with. Even at 93, he still beat me in an arm wrestle - no joking. He grew a giant garden every year yet he gave away most of what he grew. He left bags of peppers and tomatoes on the mailbox for the mailman. He knew how to fix everything, yet no one taught him how to do anything. He read books. He knew construction, masonry, electric, plumbing just from trying. He was tough as nails. Yet he had a soft spot for animals. He cried for days when his beloved cat Solo passed away and could never talk about past dogs, Bambi or Cindy. There was nothing more important to him than family. He was afraid of water and would never go in a pool or even a bath tub because he saw his friends get swept away into the sea when he was in the army. He tried to swim out and save them but the current was too fast. He was captured in Africa by the English in WWII and was a POW for 7 years, forced to work on a farm in England. The family grew to love him and took him in as one of their own. He wouldn't have left England if it hadn't been for a beautiful girl named Fortunata waiting for him to return to Italy once the war ended. He loved cookies, cake, chocolate - anything sweet. He was a card shark and always won at poker or rummy. He taught me how to play. He taught me a lot of things. He was the life of the party. He loved to paint and sculpt things out of the clay dirt in our backyard. He loved his westerns and could watch cowboys and indians 24/7. He was a great singer, liked opera, and was a great guitar player. He was the lead guitar while his friends and cousins played mandolin. He enjoyed life. He lived it to the fullest. He will be missed by all but especially by me. He was more than my Nonno - he was my best friend.

My lovely Nonno, you will be greatly missed. I loved coming over to the house and "flirting" with you. My fondest memory of you was when we were at my brother's apartment and everyone wanted you to go for a ride around the farm. You were adamant on not leaving the house, but once I asked if you would come with me, you jumped right up. I loved your smile and most importantly your stubborness. I could never get enough of you when I visited as you always brought a smile to my face no matter what kind of mood I was in. Even though you have many people on this earth that will really miss you, I know you are now at peace with your beautiful wife. She will take care of you, as well as my mama. Hope you guys are having fun up there!!! To the Urbaniak family, my deepest sympathies are with you during this difficult time. We have experienced a lot of loss together and I truly consider you a part of my family. I love you and will always be here for you. Love, Teri
