Piscataway - George J. Wallace, 85, died Monday, August 22, 2016 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Manhattan, New York to the late Frank and Susan (Volk), George was raised in New York City. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 10, 1950 during the Korean War and served aboard the USS Manta, a live target vessel. During his courageous service, his submarine was hit by a destroyer. On February 5, 1954, George was honorably discharged from the Navy. He worked for AT&T for 31 years and was President of the NYC Area Council of the Telephone Pioneers of America and later, President of the EJ Hall Chapter of the Pioneers of America. Prior to retirement, George was relocated to the Bedminster office where he was involved with many community projects. In 1979, George settled to Piscataway Township and continued his community involvement. A proud and long standing member of the American Legion Post 261, he is the Past Adjutant of the Post and held the position of Historian. He also was the project leader in the Post's New Eyes for the Needy and Keep in Touch programs. He was named Piscataway's Grand Marshall in the 2011 and 2016 Memorial Day Parade. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis; surviving are his three children, Lorna Henderson and husband Brice of Califon, Lynn Ann Wallace of Piscataway and Gregory Wallace of Raritan. He will also be missed by his twin grandsons, Richard and Ryan and a host of friends. Funeral services will begin on Saturday August 26, 2016 at 9:30AM in the Piscataway Funeral Home 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway NJ 08854 followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima RC Church at 10:30AM. Burial will follow in Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway. Family and friends are invited to funeral home on Friday from 2-4PM & 7-9PM
