Piscataway - Joan C. Johnson, 84 passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, June 2, 2106 at her daughter's home. Born in Maryland, she grew up in Salisbury, Md., and resided briefly in Metuchen before settling in Piscataway in 1958. Joan had been employed by Rutgers University in the Computer Center prior to her retirement. A Charter member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Piscataway, her most recent church involvements were as a member of the Chancel Guild and on the newsletter staff. A patron of the arts, Joan enjoyed symphonies, cinema and theatre most notably the Off-Broadstreet Theatre of Hopewell. Additionally, Joan will be remembered as an avid reader, a member of the Bookies Book Club in Middlesex, a local Birthday club and she especially enjoyed sunsets on the Bay. Predeceased by her first husband, John H. Johnson and second husband James English, surviving are her daughter, Julia Johnson Thick and her husband, Robert. Also surviving are her grandson, Robert C. Thick and several dear friends. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, June 9, 2016 with gathering from 10- 11AM in the Narthex of the Christ United Methodist Church, 485 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, NJ 08854 followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Lake Nelson Memorial Park, Piscataway, NJ. Donations in her memory may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
