Elizabeth " Betty" Rainone, 82, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 in Somerville. Born and raised in Newark, Betty resided in Nutley before moving to Piscataway in 1966. Betty received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics from Montclair State University and a Library Media Specialist Certificate form Keane University. Mrs. Rainone taught mathematics at Paramus High School and South Side High School in Newark and was also the Library Media Specialist at Piscataway High School for 21 years, retiring in 1998. During her retirement Betty became active within the Diocese of Metuchen. She studied at the John Neumann Pastoral Center and the Osher Lifelong Institute at Rutger's University. Dedicated to her faith as a devout catholic, Betty belonged to the National and Metuchen Councils of Catholic Women, served on the Catholic Awards Committee as well as the Rite of Chrisitan Initiation of Adults Team within her parish, St. Frances Cabrini RC Church in Piscataway. She was a member of the Middlesex County Retired Teacher's Association, the Metlar - Bodine House Museum in Piscataway, the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutger's University, the former Gran Centurions of Clark and even served on the Piscataway Cultural Arts Commission. A tireless volunteer for many years, Betty was a Girl Scout in her youth and continued her affiliation with organization for over 40 years. While active with the scouts, Betty participated and organized several events and served on the Delaware - Raritan Girl Scout Council. In addition to volunteering, Betty also enjoyed traveling with her family. She enjoyed going on cruises and sightseeing and a few of her most favorite trips were traveling around Cape Horn, visiting St. Peter's Basilica and even walked the Great Wall of China Predeceased by her husband Michael and a daughter Beth, surviving is her daughter, Lauren Rainone of Piscataway; sister, Terry Segreto and her husband Joe of Clark and brother in-law, Guy Rainone of Manchester. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 4-8pm in the Piscataway Funeral Home 18 Stelton Rd. Piscataway, NJ 08854. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10AM at St. Frances Cabrini RC Church, Piscataway. Interment will follow at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
