John Thomas Guzy, 76
John Thomas Guzy, of Piscataway, N.J. passed away on January 11, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J. A viewing will be held at 1 P.M. followed by a short service at 2 P.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway. Burial will be private at Clover Leaf Cemetery in Woodbridge, N.J.
John was born on July 19, 1940 to John and Tillie Guzy in Linden, N.J. He graduated from Linden High School and earned a Bachelor of Science, Economics and Finance from Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to earn a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Drew University. He was an ordained Minister with the American Baptist Churches of Westfield, NJ.
John worked as a financial advisor for various firms since 1972. For the last thirty years, he worked for Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley.
Also, known as "Tom" to family and friends, he will be remembered for his kind ways and patient attitude. John enjoyed hearing and telling jokes. He treated his financial clients as his own family, looking out for their wellbeing. He was also talented in his ability to repair cars, and anything that needed fixing around the house. In his younger days, he even put together a homemade car.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen "Nicki" (Sullivan) Guzy; his sister, Theresa Schmidt; nephews, Richard Guzy and Jeff Guzy; nieces, Barbara King and Judy Guzy; foster nephews, Wayne Briner and John Schoonmaker and honorary nephews, Matthew Makmur and Michael Makmur.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Stefan Guzy; and brother in law, Albert Schmidt; nephew, Gary Schmidt and foster nephew, James Briner.
