Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather Robert Vedutis, age 83, of South Plainfield, NJ entered eternal life on May 26, 2016.
Robert Vedutis aka "Boots" was born January 29, 1933 to Anthony and Catherine Vedutis, he had two sisters and one brother. On May 2, 1952 he married Mildred Mercadante of Maplewood and shortly thereafter, they made their home in South Plainfield, NJ where they raised five children; three boys and two girls.
Through the years he worked as a Parks and Shade Tree Laborer for the township of Maplewood and looked after many children with his wife, caring for each and every one as if their own. Robert was a quiet, simple man who enjoyed trips to the Poconos, fiddling around in his shed, sitting on his back deck with a word find and spending time with family. In recent years, he enjoyed connecting with family and friends on Facebook.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Vedutis, son Frank Vedutis of South Plainfield, brother Richard Vedutis of Springfield, and sister Lillian Sullivan of Jersey City.
He is survived by his sons Robert Vedutis (Debra) of Toms River and William Vedutis (Deborah) of South Plainfield; two daughters Donna Vedutis of South Plainfield and Diane Ford (Daniel) of Lexington, SC; daughter-in-law Jackie Vedutis of South Plainfield; sister Barbara LaPointe (Bill) of Brick, two sister-in-laws Roseann Weaver of Chatham; and Dolly Mercadante of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren, Desiree Shellem (Jay), Robert Vedutis (Terry), Jennifer Charnecky (Chris), William Vedutis, Frank Vedutis, Christopher Vedutis, Anthony Moscato, Andrea Vedutis, Joseph Vedutis (Chelsea), Jake Ford and Riley Ford; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. A service reflecting Robert's life will begin at 7:45 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's honor to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department.
