Obituary of Stanley J. Phillips

Stanley J. Phillips Jr., 94, surrounded by his family passed peacefully on February 19th, 2016. Preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Josephine Mari; Stanley was born and a 67 year resident of South Plainfield until retirement in 1988 when he moved and lived in Forked River NJ for 27 years. Growing up during the Great Depression he was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church serving as altar boy in the church's early years of the 1930's . As a young man Mr. Phillips served his country in WWII as a Marine and was part of the occupation of Japan. Afterwards in 1946, he went to work for the Art Color Printing Company in Dunellen NJ and became a journeyman bookbinder until it closed in 1968 . In 1968, in spite of an earlier industrial accident that left him disabled for life; he valiantly started and successfully operated P&D Printing and Bindery company Middlesex, NJ until its sale and his retirement as its President in 1988. Thus, concluding a 42 year career. Upon retirement he stayed extremely active with his family, travel and other business interests. He was a lifetime member of the Second Marine Division; he was member of the Forked River Tuna Club, an avid coin collector and a communicant of St. Pius Church in Forked River. His lifelong passion was being a New York Yankees fan having seen Joe Di Maggio play and personally met Mickey Mantle. At 86, he attended the final old-timers game at the original Yankee Stadium in NY. Mr. Phillips is survived by his brother Henry Phillips 90 of Readington, NJ. His daughters Anne M Phillips of Manhattan, Barbara and husband Bill Venet of Toms River. His son Stanley J Phillips 3rd and wife Beverly of Annandale, NJ. He was proud grandfather to Stanley IV, Jonathan, Jaime, Jennifer and Nik, and his four great grandchildren. Viewing services to be held at the South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 0708 on Wednesday, February the 24th from 2-4PM and 7-9PM followed by a funeral mass service on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 10AM, at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Entombment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, South Plainfield.
