Obituary of Steven M. Zarra

Steven Zarra, 63, affectionately known as Poppy by his grandchildren, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Summit to the late Harvey and Marie Zarra (nee DeAndrea), Steve grew up in Mountainside and was a graduate of Jonathan Dayton High School class of 1973. He went on to attend Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. After returning from college he met his beloved wife Gina Waldron in 1975 and the two married in 1977 and settled to South Plainfield. For the past 40 years, Steve was employed by Allstate Legal Supply in Cranford and currently held the position of Production Assistant. Steven was happiest when he had his family surrounding him. He left a legacy of lifelong friends and relatives and will be deeply missed. Surviving are his beloved wife of 40 years, Gina Zarra, whom, to his grandchildren he affectionately referred to as "Nanny Banana"; daughter, Stefanie O'Brien and husband Sean; son, David and wife Kristina, all of South Plainfield; brothers, Jack and wife Shirley of Pocono Pines, PA and David and wife Cheryl of Glen Gardener; cherished grandchildren, Madison, Ethan, Peyton and Giovanna; brother in law, Don Waldron and wife Denise of South Plainfield; sister in law and Suzanne Waldron also of South Plainfield. Also surviving are his nieces, Angela, Alyssa, Arianna, Ava, Amanda and Brittany and husband Peter nephews, Cory, Derrick and wife Johanna, Nick and Brian; great nieces, Jane and Jaeleigh and a great nephew, Travis as well as many cousins and extended relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 beginning at 9AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 4-8pm in the funeral home.
