William T. McCarthy South Plainfield - William T. "Bill" McCarthy, 79, passed away on Monday July 9, 2018. Born and raised in Jersey City, Bill settled to South Plainfield in the mid 1960's. Before his retirement he worked for Wakefern Food Corp as a truck driver. He drove more than 3 million miles never taking a sick day and never having an accident. When Bill's kids were young he could always be found down at the fields of The SPJBC coaching his kids' teams and working on the fields before and after games. Later in life he could be found cheering and encouraging his grandchildren with their sports. Bill was proud of his Yugoslavian (Croatian) and Irish heritage and he was a Proud Marine where he joined the boxing team and played football, these were some of the best years of his life! He was a Republican, he believed in the 2nd Amendment and strongly the 1st Amendment and often voiced his opinion on politics which he knew a lot about. He was a walking history book and an avid reader who had an IQ of 142. He was a great athlete, he enjoyed racquetball and running, completing The NYC Marathon twice. He enjoyed country music, dancing, duct tape, Bailey's Irish Cream, the "ponies", Vegas and other casinos - He was a multimillionaire on virtual slots! Bill is predeceased by his wife, Margaret in 2010. His son, Michael McCarthy died in 2006. Surviving are a daughter; Kelly Villares and her husband, John of South Plainfield and a son; Shawn McCarthy and his wife, Tara of Inverness, Florida. Also surviving are four dear grandchildren; Lauren, Zachary, Connor and Julianne. He also leaves a girlfriend, Linda Kozarski of Cherry Hill. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him; He truly was a great man! Cremation and Memorial Services will be held privately in Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield. Semper fi
