Obituary of Carol E. Riegel

Edison, NJ - Carol E. (Janasik) Riegel, 74, passed away suddenly at her residence on July 18, 2018. Born in Berwick, PA to the late Stephen and Susan Janasik, Carol has been a resident of Edison for almost forty years. Carol began her career in Education as a Teacher of Social Studies at Plainfield High School. In 1972, Carol became a fulltime School Psychologist and that is where she began her forty-six-year dedicated career at Governor Livingston Regional High School. Carol counselled thousands of young people through difficult challenges and she was proud to have helped them move forward to lead productive lives as students and adults. Carol also assisted with various child study teams throughout Union County. Carol was an active member of the NJ Association of School Psychologist as well as the NJ Psychological Association. She has served as a key member of the Governor Livingston Crisis Planning Committee, Crisis Response Team and CORE Team. Over the years, Carol has been commended for her strong knowledge of adolescent development and will be truly missed by all of her colleagues and former students. Carol loved to cook, plant, decorate for Christmas, swim, enjoy the beach, and golf. Her favorite past time was entertaining her family, friends and colleagues. Carol is survived by her sister Gloria Gurick of Virginia Beach, VA, nieces and nephews Karen Stewart and her husband Duncan and Michael Gurick and his wife Kendra, along with great nieces and nephews; Kelsey and Gavin Gurick and Alex and Jason Stewart. Visitation will be held in McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 4-8 pm and on Friday, July 27, 2018 beginning 10:30 am. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 am. Burial will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 3:00 pm in the Holy Annunciation Cemetery located in Berwick, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to Center for Hope Hospice (www.cfhh.org) would be appreciated.
