Stan Mambort.... SJHS 73' posted a condolence

I just saw the notice of Mr. English's passing in the St. Joes alumni magazine. I was lucky enough to have him for accounting my senior year at St. Joes and it was a life changing experience. He was a fabulous teacher who listened to his students, interacted with them and commanded respect. You could talk to him about anything and he was the voice of reason. He inspired me to work hard and suggested a university that I ultimately went to (John Carroll/Cleveland, Ohio). 45 years later, there is not one thing I would change about that experience. The world was a better place because of people like him, and I feel extremely fortunate that our paths crossed. Peace to you Mr. English ...thank you for everything!

I remember many a good conversation with mike at st joes. I just saw the memoriam in the st joes summer editon of their mag. I can say that i feel the pain, the grief and the overwhelming feelings that wash over his wife, his family and friends at his passing. I am a recent widow, as my joe passed on mar. 19 2017. even tho it has been 17 months, i continue to attend a grief group at st francis in metuchen, i also was supported by the grief group that meets weekly for 8 weeks, begining once in the fall and again in the spring. the program is excellent. Again, i am so sorry , his quote ... about going quitely among the world... is a favorite of mine as well God Bless ro harvey 63 sharon ave edison

We were so surprised and saddened to hear of Mike's passing. He was a great teacher and his humor is legendary. Even now, the thought of one of his many quips brings a smile. He was a wonderful person, an accomplished mayor, and a terrific educator. RIP, Mike. Our condolences to your beloved family.

Mr English (Mike) was one of a kind. I remember him. as the Volunteer Atletic Director at SHS. He was a fixture at all the CYO games.- even more so than our parents. He seemed to have made a lifetime out of coaching, teaching ,helping and teasing the people around him. His nephew’s friends (that dared to come around) found out just how swiftly he could put you in your place. His jokes were not politically correct but very funny and indicative of a better time when people talked and laughed - he did a lot of both too. He made being a kid in the 80’s a ton of fun. My condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences to Michael's family. Michael was a great guy at St. Joseph's, always smiling and sharing a kind word with others. I still remember his enjoyable Me and My Shadow performance at the talent show in 1965 with Patrick. I will miss him. He will be remembered in my prayers.

I was so sad to hear of Mike's passing. I had Mike as a teacher at St. Joe's in 1973. I took an Accounting course as an elective my senior year and remember asking Mike "people do this for a living?". I enjoyed the course and majored in it in college. I've had a long. successful career in the Accounting field. I still, to this day, credit that course, and Mike, for me becoming a CPA. RIP, Mr. English....

Michael was a wonderful teacher & friend to his students & parents alike. He did not only teach what was in the books but he taught his students about humanity & mentored each one as if they were his own. True life lessons. My son Saul looked up to him and respected him as a friend. They kept in touch over the years and when my son graduated with his masters he reached out to his friend, Mr English. I am sorry for the battle he had to fight & for the loss of a great man. May his memory live on in all of us, always. My condolences at this difficult time.

I'm very saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. English. I was one of his students, and he was one of the best teachers I've ever had, and a friend. I was hoping one day soon to be able to see him again and pay a visit, even sadder to know that I won't be able to. I'm so thankful for the time I did have with him though. When you were having a bad day you'd look forward to talking to him and laughing with him or debating with him! He was also a very real person and would help us prepare for life after high school. He would help you with any questions you had, or any problems you came to him with. I will miss him and his dark sense of humor haha! My condolences to his friends and family. Thank you Mr. English.
