Obituary of Joaquin R. Barrios

South Plainfield - Joaquin R. Barrios, 77, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 surrounded by his family at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway. Born in San Juan Y Martinez, Cuba to the late Flores and Delfina (Garcia) Barrios, he immigrated to the United States, settling to Miami in 1960, then Elizabeth, NJ and finally to South Plainfield, where he has been a resident for the past forty-five years. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army where he served as a Private First Class during the Vietnam War. Joaquin retired from Northside Imports located in Edison where he worked as a manager in the warehouse. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and his passion in life was his family, especially his grandchildren. Joaquin leaves behind his loving family; wife Joanne (Punk) Barrios of fifty-years, children; Toni, Peter, Stephen, Joaquin, Jr., Robert and Brittanni and ten grandchildren; Amanda, Christopher, Daniel, D'kota, Samantha, Alexandrya, Alexis, Robert, Sophia and Ryan. He will be missed by several siblings, extended family and friends, as well as his family in Cuba. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 beginning 4:00 pm at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 with military honors and prayer service concluding at 8:00 pm with Father Peter from Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations sent to the C.O.P.D. Foundation (www.copdfoundation.org) would be appreciated. At the request of the family, cremation will be held privately.
