South Plainfield – John William Mace, 68, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, after a long illness.

John was born on December 23, 1950, in Berlin, Germany to United States Staff Sergeant Harry Martin Mace and Gladys Sorensen and was raised throughout the South wherever his father was stationed primarily  Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

John attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington and n was an avid student of history, particularly of the U.S. Civil War.

He was an excellent cook and was interested in all cuisines.

An accomplished artist and iconographer, John faithfully served the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) as Church School teacher and director, parish representative at Church councils, and cook for St. Andrew’s Camp on Lake Oneida, N.Y.

John is survived by his wife, Juliana; brothers, Lee (Vicki) and Michael; nieces, Courtney, Lindsey, and Breeann, and nephews Matthew and Philip.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 5-8pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 beginning at 9:30am at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, Brooklyn, NY.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Flushing, NY.
