Obituary of Elsie L. Louis
South Plainfield – Elsie L. (Lemke) Louis, 100, passed away Thursday July 25, 2019 at AristaCare at Cedar Oaks in South Plainfield.
Born in Newark, Elsie graduated from South Side High School and attended New Jersey Institute of Technology. She resided in South Plainfield for over 65 years with a dual residence in Forked River for 30 years where she was an active and devoted member to the Village Lutheran Church in Lanoka Harbor.
During WWII she was a USO volunteer and worked as a supervisor in the Engineering Department of New Jersey Telephone Company, after 41 years of service she retired.
An active and life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America - M.G. McCully Chapter of Plainfield and New Brunswick Council; Elsie was also an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served on the board of trustees. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League and was a braille transcriber for the blind.
A thankless woman, Elsie volunteered with the Fish Organization and food bank, Tri-County Seniors, Ocean County Food Bank she was also a member of Bell System Pioneers of Ocean County and for many years and was an active member of the Republican Party as Committee Woman.
Surviving is her devoted son, Kevin Louis of South Plainfield; two nephews, Douglas Lemke and his wife Sharon of Virginia and Ronald Lemke of California and great niece Cierra Lemke.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 11AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by burial in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday from 2-4PM & 7-9PM in the funeral home.
