Grandpa Joe was the best. Who would have thought that young boy from Germany would create such a big and loving family. I am so thankful that I was able to get to spend so much time with gramp over the last 9 years. He is so caring and is one of the most helpful men I have ever met. Last summer when we were building the patio in the backyard, he was out there everyday with us. Even though he couldn’t help like he wanted to, he was always trying to give us tips to make our job easier. I am very grateful to have been able to know gramp. He has taught me so much, and I hope I can be half the man he was.

Grandpa (Dat),
Words can’t begin to express the pain I feel in my heart. But I also have an overwhelming sense of peace knowing that you knew how much we all love you. You gave me a home, a safe place to grow up, an amazing childhood, and had faith in me when I didn’t have any in myself. You gave me life and purpose. Most of all.... you showed me the true meaning of what it means to be kind and selfless. I am forever grateful for all you’ve given me. You’ve always been my rock, my real life hero. No one will ever be able to fill your shoes because you were truly one of a kind. I am the luckiest of all 13 grandchildren because I was truly blessed to have you for 40 years! I love you Dat and will miss you every single day for the rest of my life.

Grandpa Joe was a great man and an even better Father and Grandfather. Even in my short time of knowing him, I could see he was the central pillar of a beautiful family that I was accepted in to. His kind, caring, loving nature to his family was an inspiration to me as a Father. He lived a long, full life that will be remembered and honored by many, including myself. I will always think of he and I sharing a beer at one of the many family functions while surrounded by a sea of females (as that seemingly is all the family produces) and just talking about everyday things or his interesting life he lived. He means so much to my Wife, Kristyn, as he was an integral part of her childhood. Because of him, she has become the woman she is today and why I love her, and for that I love you. I will ensure that we and my two children will pass your memory on for generations to come, as that is the least that we can do. Thank you for all you have done and I only hope I am half the man that you were. Rest In Peace Joe

I am going to miss you so much Dat! Words can’t describe what you meant to me, as a child I thought you were Superman. You could fix anything! I was never without a bike, when I grew out of the one you had for me there was a another one right behind it. All of my happy childhood memories were with you at your house. When you built the infamous dollhouse in the backyard, we were the coolest kids on the block and all the kids wanted to come and play. We had the best sleepovers in that dollhouse. You were always there for each and every one of us but you never treated us like babies, we needed to be “strong like bull”. That can be a hard task with a family full of girls, somehow you pulled it off. We all grew up to be very independent and strong adults. You raised each and every person in our family and because of you we have an amazing bond. Thank you so much for being my Grandpa. I don’t know how I am going to go on each day without you but I find comfort knowing you are looking down on us. Auf Wiedersehen Opa. Ich liebe dich!

Joe you were always so kind and generous to everyone around you. Your help during both mom & dad's deaths; fixing the house, taking care of their cars and spirit will always be remembered and cherished. The back yard fort you built for all the neighborhood kids was a palace for us! An old folding lawn chair with two worn cushions was far less than you deserved but all we could muster. I'll never forget how you beamed in that rickety "throne" made by a bunch of poor but grateful kids after the first night spent in that fort. Whenever anyone needed a hand, money or encouragement you were there. Teaching, giving & caring. You're probably on the patio, under the Willow tree looking down on us now. Peace my old friend.
All my heart prayers & sympathy to Sue, Mitzie, Millie, Chris & all the grand kids especially Tina who went out of her way to make Joe's golden years special. Dave Robertson

For a few years you were more than a cousin, you were the brother I never had. We shared many good times. I remember especially the cross country trip we took in your 58 Corvette. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I can’t express the pain I feel. The emptiness and hole in my heart. You were always the most important person in my life. It was always you and me. Even at the end, Pop. You waited for me. I know you are so happy with all your old friends and relatives that passed before you. I know we will be together again and that keeps me going. You have taught me how to be like you in so many ways. I am forever grateful I had you as my father. and my kids had you as a grandfather. What lucky girls! You always were so proud of me even when you shouldn’t be. That’s a fathers love. I could never put into words the person that you were. There are no words great enough. I love you Pop and I know I will see you soon. ❤️❤️

I was so blessed to have known you all these years. You made me laugh so hard at the antics to did over the years with "YOU KNOW WHO." I hope you two are having a blast in heaven. I know he was waiting for you. Rest in peace Poppa Joe.

Our angel here on earth has now gone home. I wish you were still here with us but I know that is selfish and the most important thing I learned from you is to be selfless. I love you so much grandpa and you not only told and showed your love for us but we felt it immensely. You touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing you and I was lucky enough to have you as my grandfather and for my children to know their great grandfather. I will show god everyday how grateful I am for giving us so much time with you by striving to be as good of a human as you were! I will cherish every memory you gave us, but I can’t wait to see you again to laugh and sing in heavens backyard. I know your cutting the grass up there right now making it beautiful!

My grandpa, my best friend, my hero and now my angel. I don’t know how I am supposed to go on without you but I know you’ll always be here by my side. Thank you for helping mom and dad raise me these past 24 years. How lucky I was to have you as my grandpa, to show me all the paths of life and how to overcome every bump in the road. When my whole world felt like it was falling apart I would be okay, because I knew I had you. You are truly my life and the definition of a selfless human being. Grandpa, I miss you so much and I love you more then you’ll ever know. I will think of you every second of everyday. I love you forever and ever ❤️
