Louis E. Hasbrouck, 95, of South Plainfield and Ocean Beach, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Good Friday, April 10th surrounded by his loving children. Mr. Hasbrouck was born in Jersey City, raised in Linden and has resided in South Plainfield since 1957. Son of the late Benjamin and Louise (Beeler) Hasbrouck, he was also predeceased by brothers, Benjamin and Victor and sisters, Anna, Louise and Dorothy. Louis’s beloved wife, Pauline “Pat” (Tietjen), passed in 2016 after 67 years of marriage. Louis is survived by a son, Randal Hasbrouck and daughters, Gail Merlo (Leonard), Sharon Gianneschi (Frank) and Nancy Vega along with 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Drafted at 18, Louis was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Germany and Japan. After the war, Louis was employed by Exxon in Linden retiring in 1982. Known for his sharp wit and great sense of humor by family and friends, he also enjoyed camping, jogging, golfing, fishing, carpentry and his beach house. Mr. Hasbrouck, an avid dog lover, always had a dog by his side. Louis was a longtime member of St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church of South Plainfield. Due to the current national health crisis, funeral services are being held privately and Louis is being laid to rest alongside his beloved Pauline at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Somerset, NJ. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church 3145 Park Ave South Plainfield, NJ 07080, the Linden Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
