Obituary of Timothy P Mason, Sr.
Timothy P. Mason Sr., died December 23, 2020, at RWJUH, New Brunswick. He was born June 1940 in Orange, NJ, the son of Norman and Sophia E. (Przywara) Mason. Tim was a long time resident of Piscataway, NJ, currently residing in Brick, NJ.
Tim graduated from Columbia HIgh School in Maplewood, Class of 1958 and from Fairleigh Dickenson University, Class of 1963 with a degree in Accounting. He served in the United States Army and Army National Guard from 1963 through 1971, last serving as a First Lieutenant. Tim married Sandra Ann Vaiculevich in 1963 and started their family in Passaic, NJ before relocating for a short time in Bloomfield, NJ.
Tim became a CPA and started his accounting career at Coopers & Lybrand before embarking on his long career at K. Hovnanian Enterprises, holding many positions from Controller to SVP of Risk Management over his nearly 30 years with the Company, as well as serving on their Board of Directors.
Tim was a devout Catholic and gave his time and talent to Our Lady of Fatima Church, Piscataway, involved in many ministry efforts including cooking soup suppers, delivering food to the needy, serving on the parish council and finance committee and most recently heading up their current building campaign. He was a Director in the Cape Breton Holding Co. for decades and also served as Vice President. Tim was dubbed team dad of Rutgers Varsity Cheerleading in the late 1980’s for his daughter and of the robotics program at Piscataway High School for his granddaughter. He was always happiest when surrounded by his family, and his grandchildren considered Pop Pop to be the “Greatest gift from God”.
He was an avid boater and fisherman, purchasing his first boat at age 15 with his own money, and owning many others up until a few year before his passing. Tim also had a passion for his flowers and gardening. He is fondly remembered by the Cape Breton beach community as a good man with a tender heart who loved his family. He loved telling stories of his life’s adventures and provided sage advice.
Tim enjoyed walking his dog Casper around the community, engaging in conversation with everyone who crossed his path. He carried so much kindness and generosity in his heart. His infectious laugh put a smile of the faces of so many. As a husband, dad, pop pop, friend, he was warm, caring, giving, witty, faithful, devoted, a role model and an inspiration. He believed that everything had a silver lining and found so many things in nature to be “simply gorgeous”.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Norman.
