William H. Gibbs, Sr.
Age: 95 * Raritan
Raritan, NJ – William H. Gibbs, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 31, 2021 at CareOne Rehabilitation and Care Center. Born in Mount Vernon, NY to the late George and Mable (Mack) Gibbs, he lived in North Plainfield before settling to Raritan in 1980.
Bill was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during World War II. He worked hard so he could provide a great life for his wife and family. Bill worked as a furrier flesher in New York, and then as a security guard with Adesa and a crossing guard for the Borough of Manville. He loved spending time down at LBI and at his second home in Barnegat. He thoroughly loved crabbing with his grandchildren and enjoyed sitting by the bay drinking a coffee or on the patio with a cold beer.
Bill was a proud veteran and could always be seen wearing his WWII hat wherever he went. He belonged to the Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW Post 2290 in Manville and the American Legion Post 12 of Somerville. He belonged to the Catholic Church of St. Ann’s in Raritan, loved to buy lottery tickets, enjoyed dancing, especially the Jitterbug, and his favorite time was spent on the golf course, golfing all the way up to his late eighties.
Predeceased by his loving wife Eileen, daughters; Kathy Erickson and Linda Carovillano and son-in-law Dennis Carovillano, Bill leaves behind his children; Michael Gibbs and his wife Georgette of Bridgewater, William “Bill” Gibbs, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Lincoln Park and Dawn Barry and her husband Wayne of Raritan. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and many friends whom he has met over the years.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. A religious service will begin at 11:00 am and burial will take place alongside his wife at St. Bernard Cemetery in Bridgewater.
