Obituary of Fred Battaglia

On Sunday April 18, 2021, Fred “Ferdinand” Battaglia loving husband and devoted father of 3 children passed away suddenly at the age of 83 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Born in Brooklyn, Fred resided in Elizabeth before settling in Edison.  He worked for Wakefern Food Corporation until his retirement.

Anyone who knew Fred could see the love and adoration he had for his family.  He was married to his wife Gerri for 56 years.  A coach at heart, Fred coached both his children and grandchildren basketball, baseball, and softball.  You could always find him on the court or field screaming and cheering for his “kids.” Fred loved to garden, dance and grab the microphone to belt out a tune. 

Surviving are his wife, Gerri (Okie) Battaglia, and three children, Sherrie Lubonski and husband Mark, Kelly Guno and husband Lou and Dean Battaglia.  He will also be missed by his seven grandchildren: Cassie, Kayla, Alexa, Kara, Isabella, Ryan and Alexandra.  He is also survived by his brother John and sister Ann Marie.

Family and friends may gather Thursday, April 22 from 4:00-8:00 PM at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080.  

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 9:00 AM at South Plainfield Funeral Home followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
