Obituary of Patricia Mary Longo
Clark, NJ – Patricia Mary (Luongo) Longo, 82, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021 surrounded by family at the Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clark. Born in Newark, NJ to the late Pasquale and Philomena (Saverino) Luongo, Pat spent most of her life in North Edison as a stay at home mom raising her five children.
Predeceased by her husband Joseph in 2013, Pat leaves behind her loving family, daughters Maria James and partner Derrick, Patricia “Tree” Olano and her husband James, Cynthia Pero and her husband Rob, Melissa Sapia and her husband Nick; son, John Longo; sister, Marion Giovan ;best friend of 77 years Lenora Donnatiello and husband Gene and twelve grandchildren who she loved dearly, Matthew & his wife Meagan, Jake and his Fiancé Nicole, Christopher, Julia, Katie, Joey, Michael, Olivia, Sam, Luke, Jillian and JJ.
Pat grew up in Newark and graduated from West Side High School. She worked at John Hancock in West Orange as a bookkeeper before getting married and starting a family. Pat married the love of her life, Joseph, on May 13, 1962 at St Rocco’s Church in Newark. For two years they resided in Irvington before settling into their home in North Edison, where they raised their family. She was heavily involved with Menlo Park Elementary School; where all 5 of her children attended. Pat served as classroom mom every year for each of her children and volunteered as President of the PTA. She also ran the school newspaper and volunteered for countless other events at the school. Pat worked as a crossing guard for over 25 years, where she was beloved by all. Pat also served as Edison Township Committeewoman in the 1980’s and worked tirelessly on many election days and nights at the polls.
An avid sports fan, she cheered on the NY Giants and her beloved NY Yankees. Pat and her late husband, Joe could be found many a summer evenings, sitting on the back patio watching the game and enjoying iced coffees. Pat also enjoyed spending time with her family, making Sunday Gravy, bowling, going to Bingo with her sister and she loved her game shows. Pat was a woman of strong catholic faith and attended bible study classes.
A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Cathedral, 32 Elm Ave, Metuchen, NJ 08840 on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 10:15AM. Cremation will be held privately and Pat’s cremated remains will be entombed at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 4-7PM.
