Obituary of Juan L. Perez, Sr.
Juan Luis Perez, Sr., 58, passed away at UMDNJ in Newark after a fight with COVID-19 on December 29, 2021. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Juan Perez Varela and Alejandrina Sanchez Cruz, his hometown was Quebradilla, PR and Juan has been a resident of Elizabeth for most of his adult life.
He was a part-time supervisor for UPS in Edison. On weekends, Juan would attend flea markets and sell his famous BBQ shish kabobs. He deeply loved his family and friends and when it came to his children; he never missed a family function, especially those where he had the opportunity to make his shish kabobs.
Juan always made those he encountered feel welcomed, would give the shirt off his back to those in need and could make anyone laugh.
Juan leaves behind his three sons; Juan L. Perez, Jr., Alexander L. Perez and Nathaniel M. Perez. He will also be missed by his many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 5-9pm at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. A family service with eulogies will begin at 7:30pm. Those attending the services for Juan are asked to wear a face covering and limit your time with the family, allowing all those to gather safely.
At the request of the family, cremation will be held private.
