Obituary of Kathryn Dean

Please share a memory of Kathryn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

South Plainfield – It is with heavy hearts that Kathryn Dean, 38, passed away peacefully early Friday morning April 1, 2022 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick after a courageous battle against gastric cancer.

Born in Summit, “Kat” as most who knew her, was a lifelong resident of South Plainfield and a 2002 graduate of South Plainfield High School.

After high school, Kat attended some college classes before she began working at House Masters in Bound Brook.  She then started working at PTC Therapeutics, a research and development company, in South Plainfield.

She married Jon Dean in 2008 and they established their roots in the home they purchased from her parents that Kat grew up in.  Kat loved being a stay-at-home mom and devoted her entire life to her children. She cherished them and was heavily active in their lives and their extracurricular activities and organizations. Whether it was assisting with Cheer, Brownies, PTO or planning an over the top birthday party, Kat’s determination to make it the best was extremely evident.

Kat loved to travel, and with her Greek roots, visiting Greece was her favorite. She was always known for shopping and being a “fashionista”.

She is predeceased by her beloved brother who died suddenly in 2015, Jimmy Katsiaficas.  Kat leaves behind her husband, Jon Dean and their three children, Alexis, Anastassia, and Lukas; her parents, John and Soula Katsiaficas; grandmother, Katherine Katsiaficas, and her aunt and uncle, Helen and Chris Giannios.  She will also be missed by her mother in law, Linda Dean; sister in law, Kelly Dunn and husband Kevin and brother in law, Leigh Dean as well as her two nieces Hanna and Deanna, nephew Jake, many cousins, aunts, uncles and devoted friends.

Jon and the family would also like to acknowledge Debbie Czech, a beloved friend and neighbor who has loved and cared for Kat’s children through this tough time.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854.  Those who are wishing to join with the family prior to Mass may do so beginning at 10:00 am at the Funeral Home.

Entombment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.

The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Kat’s memory to the Hope for Stomach Cancer, 333 Washington Blvd #609, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292, www.stocan.org
