Age: 91 * South Plainfield, NJ

South Plainfield, NJ – Marianne V. Cortese, 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.  Born and raised in Hillside, Marianne settled in South Plainfield in 1964.

Marianne retired from Muhlenberg Medical Center in Plainfield where she worked as a Radiological Secretary.  She enjoyed flowers and liked to spend time gardening.  Marianne could often be found in the kitchen cooking.  She was a former member of the South Plainfield VFW Auxiliary and was known to all as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Predeceased by her husband Philip and by two siblings; Elaine Koczot and Verna Gibson, Marianne leaves behind her loving children; Theresa Lake and her husband Russ of North Middletown, Philip Cortese and his wife Alejandra of Hellertown, PA and Kurt Cortese and his wife Janneth of South Plainfield.  Marianne will be missed by her seven grandchildren; Russell and Nicole, Dana and Dane, Eric, Thomas and Kristen, Amy and Kenneth, Kelly and Paul and Kyle as well as her thirteen great-grandchildren and Marianne’s brother Frank Nemeth and his wife Pam.

Visitation will be held in McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals on Monday, June 5, 2023 beginning 10:00am.  Catholic prayer service will begin at 11:30am and burial will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) would be appreciated.
