Joseph Michael “Butch” Lynch, Jr.
Age: 78 * Retired South Plainfield Police Officer
Toms River, NJ – Joseph Michael “Butch” Lynch, Jr., 78, died at his home on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 after a three year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Born in Plainfield to the late Joseph and Mabel (Marsh) Lynch, Butch graduated Plainfield High School, lived in South Plainfield and North Plainfield prior to retiring to Toms River.
An honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy, Butch enlisted on September 18, 1964 and completed his tour at the Naval Air Station in Lakehurst April 17, 1969 as an E-5. He retired from the South Plainfield Police Department in 1995 where he dedicated his life to others as a detective. Butch had a love for golf, the Jersey Shore and was an avid fan of baseball. He was a dog lover, and his last four legged companion Ortley held a special place in his heart.
He also liked to exercise, walk and was a great athlete. Butch enjoyed playing on his softball team and spending time at the beach and with his family. At any chance he could get, he would crack jokes and will be remembered as a great comedian and a guy with a great sense of humor.
Butch will be missed by all those that knew him. He leaves behind his daughter Kasi Floyd and her husband Walter and two granddaughters, Izabella and Hunter all of Wilmington, NC as well as his siblings; Judie Molesky of Warren, Kathy Howell and her husband Bob of Lebanon, Robert Lynch and his wife Arely of Piscataway. He had a special bond with his only niece Kimberly Molesky-Lella, her husband Vincent and their children; Laura, Anthony, Christina and Brooklyn, great-nephew Liam Vincent, great-niece Vivana Rose along with the family dog Banana. His caretaker Carolann Mello, who took great pride in caring for Butch will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023 beginning 4:00pm at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 with concluding prayers and military honors beginning at 6:30pm. Joseph will be buried privately at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Butch’s name sent to the ASPCA (www.ASPCA.org) would be appreciated.
