Lifelong South Plainfield Resident
South Plainfield, NJ – Elizabeth “Betty” Cirigliano, lifelong resident of the borough, passed away at her home on July 13, 2023, one month before her 103rd birthday. An amazing woman who lived alone, had an incredible memory and was still active three weeks before she reunited with her loving family.
Betty was the third youngest of ten children born to the late Antonio and Angelina Marion (Scutari) Cirigliano. She attended North Plainfield High School and earned a cosmetology license where she worked as a hairstylist, but later changed her career to a professional seamstress. She belonged to the International Garment Workers Union and had worked for Bruno’s in South Plainfield.
Family was the world to Betty and she loved visiting with her sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, most of whom lived in South Plainfield or neighboring towns. Betty’s love for her siblings, nieces, nephews and their families was a passion throughout her life.
After retirement, Betty continued her love of gardening, flowers, cooking, watching soap operas with her sisters; Rose, Mary and Millie, socializing with her neighbors Janet and Wendy and even raking leaves, still at 102!
Besides her parents, Betty is predeceased by her brothers; Frank, John, Joe and Tommy Cirigliano, sisters; Faye Sindet, Tessie Malec, Rose Kapsak, Millie Bruno, Mary Bellina and nieces and nephews, Frank Cirigliano, Marion Araneo, Anthony Malec, Pat Kudrick, Anthony Bruno, Joann Bellina, Joan Teranova, Rosemary Kapsak, Wayne Cirigliano and great-nephew; Chris Kapsak.
Betty is survived by her loving nephews and nieces; Thomas Kapsak, Tony Kapsak and his wife Pat, Anthony Cirigliano, Barbara Cirigliano, Jane Doherty, Cathy Piegaro and her husband George, Marie Belotti, Joyce Sullivan, Jack Kudrick, as well as twenty-four great nieces and nephews, thirty-three great-great ones and six great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at South Plainfield Funeral Home, 2456 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 beginning 10:30am. Concluding prayers will begin at 11:30am with time of sharing followed by burial at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
